Who we are

Mesa de Madrid

Mesa de Madrid is our brand and our project. What we serve every day comes out of the kitchen at Bar El Encanto, in Arganda del Rey, where you'll find us. Neighborhood bar with home-cooked food, generous plates and honest prices — nothing more, nothing less.

How we started

Mesa de Madrid started like most good neighborhood bars: with the idea of cooking what we’re good at cooking at home, and serving it at a price you don’t need to think twice about. No starched tablecloths, no menus in five languages. Just honest food and tables to sit and eat.

Before we opened, we spent months on the menu. Tested recipes, adjusted portions, asked friends and family. The result is what now defines the house: the croquettes, the crispy chicken strips, the daily menu with stews that rotate with the market.

We chose the name Mesa de Madrid because we don’t want to tie ourselves to a single street or neighborhood: we want to cook the way Madrid cooks, mixing classic roots with the people who come from many places. If you eat well here, we’re your table in Madrid.

How we do things

Fresh produce, no shortcuts

We buy almost everything from nearby markets: fish, fruit, bread. Anything not local is well chosen. No processed food in disguise.

Recipes from forever

Croquettes shaped by hand each morning, slow-cooked tortilla, homemade sauces. If you ask for the recipe, we’ll tell you.

Honest prices

Plates are made for sharing and prices are made for coming back. Clear menu, no surprise surcharges, no small print. No surprises on the bill.

The people who open every morning, cook, and run the floor.

Where the food comes from

Every morning before opening, we walk the same stalls we’ve walked for years. Routine matters: the fishmonger calls when something good comes in, the baker keeps your loaf, the greengrocer tells you what’s in its best moment.

  • Fish · Local market, catch of the day.
  • Bread · Neighborhood bakery, sourdough baked the same day.
  • Fruit and vegetables · Local greengrocer, by season and market.
